据《太阳报》报道，曼联后卫马奎尔在他的豪宅举行了盛大的跨年派对，但因为洪灾，他价值400万英镑的豪宅在派对结束后几个小时便被淹。

马奎尔与家人、好友举行了一场奢侈的派对迎接新年，受邀人士还有英格兰国门皮克福德夫妇。在午夜钟声敲响数小时后，马奎尔醒来，发现他精心设计的花园在暴雨中被淹。

消息人士称，柴郡威姆斯洛周边的房屋遭遇洪水，洪水深达3英尺（约0.9米）。当该地区的应急部门宣布发生重大灾害事故时，马奎尔立即采取了行动。客人们也加入进来，努力阻止洪水涌入房屋。

消息人士表示：“所有人都在全力以赴。他们竭力阻止洪水冲进房子。”“这肯定不是他们预想的新年伊始，但马奎尔知道，情况要糟糕得多。”

据称，短短的48小时，当地就达到了整整一个月的降雨量。大曼彻斯特地区的消防人员处理了100多起事故，数十人被困家中。
